Freelance Writing Jobs
Article and Blog Writing ($45-$75/hour)
Many businesses publish regular blog posts and articles, hoping that these articles will show up in Google search results, and people will come to their website and buy their products or services. Someone has to write those blogs. If you’re reasonably good at writing, that could be you.
Tip: If you are familiar with search engine optimization you can charge more than average for writing.
Technical Writing ($50-$85/hour)
Technical writing involves any kind of writing about technical subjects, like computers, cryptocurrency, user manuals for electronic products, etc. I used to charge $80/hour with almost no experience to write articles about computer programming.
Sales Copywriting ($55-$100/hour)
Honestly, these rates are quite low. Recently I was charging $119 an hour, and the best copywriters charge way more than that.
Remote Accounting Jobs
Bookkeeping ($40-$60/hour)
Many people (like me!) hate bookkeeping, so this is a service that is often outsourced.
Remote Design and Creative Jobs
Local Photography ($50-$65/hour)
Some of these jobs are for taking photos at weddings and other local events, but some people are also paying for original photos of specific areas. Drone photography is another skill that is growing in demand.
Product Photography ($75-$100/hour)
People who sell physical products need great photos to stand out and get sales, and they are willing to pay a professional photographer to take great photos.
Singing and Voice Talent ($60-$89/hour)
With so many businesses creating videos these days, someone with a good voice needs to read the scripts. All you need is some talent, a professional mic, and a little soundproofing. I usually do my own voiceovers, but I have hired voice talent for singing.
Video Editing ($40-$60/hour)
While there is a high demand for video editing, it seems that this area is a bit overcrowded. But if you have a portfolio that stands out from the crowd, you can charge much higher rates.
Graphic Design ($50-$65/hour)
Graphic design is usually focused on creating digital designs and visuals that might be used online or incorporated into a physical product. There are several specialized areas of graphic design, such as Logo Design that freelancers charge more for ($55-$88/hr), and UI/UX Design (see the Software Development category).
3D Animation ($40-$75/hour)
If you have skills with tools like Blender and Maya, you can make money creating 3D Animations for videos, games, and websites. This skill is especially valuable for helping businesses that sell high-priced physical products online stand out from their competitors.
Remote Software Development Jobs
Full-Stack Development ($70-$85/hour)
I used free resources to learn full-stack web application development, and I got good work with an hourly rate in the range shown above. Front-end developers usually charge a little less ($65-$80/hour) because there is a lot of competition, and back-end developers usually charge more ($75-$100/hour).
Mobile App Development ($70-$115/hour)
Mobile app developers usually charge more than web application developers, so this is a good area to develop skills in if you want a career in tech.
UI/UX Design ($70-$96/hour)
UI stands for User Interface, and UX stands for User Experience. UI/UX designers are the people who design websites, web apps, and mobile apps, usually using Figma. Another name for this position is a Product Designer. Some people report teaching themselves how to be a designer in as little as 3 months using online tutorials.
Remote Data Science Jobs
Database Administration ($70-$85/hour)
Database admins build and manage databases that are critical for the success of businesses. This another high-paying tech skill that you can learn online.
Data Mining ($75-$100/hour)
A data miner examines large amounts of data, looking for patterns to help businesses solve problems. This job is good for people with an analytical mind.
Remote Digital Marketing Jobs
Social Media Marketing ($56-$100/hour)
A social media marketer creates and published content on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in order to promote products or increase brand awareness. I hear a few colleges are starting to offer degrees in this area, but teaching yourself is a faster and more affordable route.
Email Marketing ($60-$100/hour)
An email marketer plans, creates, and manages email campaigns and drip sequences designed to educate potential customers and increase sales. For example, I wrote an email that brought in more than $76,000 a year in sales for a client (and I can teach you how I did it in 5 minutes).
Search Engine Optimization ($40-$75/hour)
It can take a lot of work to get to the top spot in Google results, and once you’re there you have to work to keep your spot as Google updates it’s algorithms and competitors try to outrank you. If you are good with technology, analysis, and writing this may be a good opportunity for you—and I also know several freelance SEO professionals who aren’t great writers and still manage to do well.
Content Strategy ($65-$115/hour)
Many people spend tons of money on creating content for their website and social media outlets without a good strategy. A content strategist helps businesses figure out what types of content will actually help the business grow, and may also help implement the plan.
Marketing Strategy / Social Media Strategy ($65-$115/hour)
Marketing is the lifeblood of many businesses, and business owners are willing to pay almost any price to get a good return on the millions of dollars that they spend on advertising each year. Another fact is that most advertising campaigns are extremely inefficient. If you can help businesses increase their income, they will be happy to pay for your services.
Remote Translation Jobs
General Translation Services ($70-$115/hour)
Many translators charge more than 10 cents per word, and if the material to be translated is technical or deadlines are tight, rates go up quickly. If you’re good enough to do live interpretation, you can also charge a lot, especially for last-minute engagements.
